IBANcheck: Secure your payouts verifying IBANs before money moves
At Clovr Labs, we’re constantly looking for new ways to make the fintech ecosystem safer. Today, we’re excited to share IBANcheck, a fast, secure, and privacy-focused tool designed to instantly verify IBAN account holders and help reduce the risk of phishing and financial fraud.
Phishing attacks targeting financial institutions and online payments have surged in early 2025, accounting for 30.4% of all reported incidents. In Q2 alone, researchers identified over 1.22 million unique phishing sites, a clear sign that attackers are getting more sophisticated.
As these threats grow, fintech companies need smarter, faster ways to detect fraud before it happens. That’s exactly what IBANcheck does.

What is IBANcheck?
IBANcheck is a secure verification tool that allows businesses and individuals to validate whether an IBAN (International Bank Account Number) truly belongs to the person or entity they’re dealing with..
Whether you’re onboarding new customers, processing payouts, or conducting KYC checks, IBANcheck helps you avoid fraudulent account use, impersonation, and payment redirection scams. By simply filling out a secure form, you can verify account holder identity with the precision and privacy that today’s fintech landscape demands.
The tool integrates seamlessly into your existing workflows, keeping fraud out without slowing business down:
- Works via secure email links sent directly to the account holder. No platform login or credentials required.
- The verification process typically takes just a few minutes, depending on how quickly the account holder responds.
- Supports banks across Europe (currently available in Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, France, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, and Norway) with more countries on the way.
How does it work?
At its core, IBANcheck is designed to make account holder verification simple, fast, secure, and transparent. Here’s how the process works, step by step:
- Submit verification details: Enter your name, email, the IBAN you want to verify, and the account holder’s email address to initiate the process.
- Email confirmation: You’ll receive an email with a secure link to confirm and activate your verification request.
- Account holder invitation: The account holder is then sent a secure link inviting them to continue the verification process.
- Secure banking flow: The account holder logs in through their bank’s Open Banking interface and provides read-only consent for data sharing.
- Data comparison: IBANcheck receives the account holder’s name and IBAN via Open Banking and compares them with the details you submitted.
- Results delivered: You’ll receive an email with one of the following outcomes:
- Verified – IBAN and name correspond.
- Mismatch – IBAN and name do not correspond.
- Declined / Incomplete – The account holder declined or didn’t complete the process.
- Verified – IBAN and name correspond.
Who is IBANcheck for?
IBANcheck is designed for organizations and teams that need to ensure funds are sent to the correct recipients before they move. It’s ideal for:
- B2B companies making regular payments to vendors, contractors, or international partners.
- Compliance and risk teams adding verification to AML/KYC workflows.
- E-commerce platforms and marketplaces to safeguard against incorrect or fraudulent bank details, protecting both sellers and the platform’s reputation.
- Accounting and ERP software providers looking to offer secure bank validation features.
- Individuals sending money abroad, paying large invoices, or transferring funds to unfamiliar accounts.
If your business moves money, and accuracy, compliance, and fraud prevention matter, IBANcheck is built for you.
Security and privacy at its core
Security and privacy are foundational principles in everything we build. IBANcheck is no different. In fintech, trust is everything, and we’ve designed this tool to meet the highest security standards, ensuring that data is handled responsibly, transparently, and with minimal exposure.
Here’s how we protect users and their data at every step:
- Verified by consent: All verifications happen with the account holder’s explicit approval, using secure Open Banking APIs. We never access accounts directly or without permission.
- We don’t store credentials: IBANcheck does not see or store any login credentials, passwords, or account balances. All authentication happens through the user’s own bank.
- Data is limited and temporary: Only the IBAN and the account holder’s name are used strictly for the purpose of verification. Nothing more is collected, and no data is retained once the process is complete.
By design, IBANcheck limits exposure, avoids unnecessary data handling, and keeps control in the hands of the users.

As phishing attacks and financial fraud become more sophisticated, the tools we use to prevent them need to be just as advanced and seamless.
IBANcheck offers a simple but powerful layer of protection in any fintech workflow. It helps teams validate account ownership before money moves, not after something goes wrong.
Whether you’re verifying new vendors, onboarding users, or securing payout flows, adding verification at the IBAN level can stop impersonation and redirect fraud in its tracks.
